The Overlooked Disorder: (Un)awareness of Developmental Coordination Disorder Across Clinical Professions

Abstract Objectives Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a common condition with core difficulties in motor skills. Recent research has identified links between DCD symptoms and negative outcomes for mental physical health. Despite this, appears to still not be well known, even many clinicians. To date, this been documented among specific groups of clinicians (e.g., occupational therapists) primarily English-speaking regions, but compared across clinical professions or countries. Therefore, we conducted cross-national study examine if German-speaking communities various are sufficiently informed about characteristics comparison ADHD other neurodevelopmental disorders. Methods N = 346 responded questions an online survey general awareness their experience treating disorders, especially regarding ADHD. Moreover, asked them classify case vignette DCD. Results Overall, 58% participants had heard only 42% treated individuals More knowledge was low, varied by profession, generally reduced working communities. Participants often gave incorrect diagnosis the (35% correct responses) offered treatment recommendations (61% responses).
